From Defence Forces to Specialist
Brian Harte’s journey into Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology began while serving as a Physical Training Instructor in the Defence Forces. During daily fitness sessions and performance testing, many soldiers turned to him for advice on injury rehabilitation. Aware that he lacked the clinical expertise to provide effective support, he began a focused effort to upskill.
He first completed a BA in Leadership and Management, where his dissertation explored Musculoskeletal Injury in the Defence Forces. In it, he proposed that military personnel should be trained as physiotherapists. This research sparked a deeper interest in the field, leading him to qualify initially as a Sports Massage Therapist before progressing into a formal physiotherapy degree. He went on to become a CORU-registered Physiotherapist.
Brian gained practical experience working with both Defence Forces personnel and civilian clients, treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. He has since completed numerous CPD courses and holds a Master’s in Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation from the University of Galway.
A New Chapter
In 2019, Brian left the Defence Forces and established his private practice. To further refine his assessment and rehabilitation approach, he enrolled in a mentorship programme led by a world-class sports physiotherapist with experience across three Rugby World Cups.
He continues to develop his methods in line with evolving research and best practice. However, his core philosophy remains the same: to treat the person, not just the injury. This means taking the time to understand each client’s history, lifestyle, and goals in order to deliver long-term, meaningful results.
